Greater Savings, Service and Reactivity
Supply chains are becoming larger and more complex,
directly impacting manufacturers, distributors and
logistics service providers. Expanding product lines
and shortened product life cycles put a greater burden
on logistics functions. Some of the challenges include
the need to plan new product introductions and
promotions at a much faster rate and to be able to
manage unexpected events.
Yesterday’s solutions such as building spreadsheets
or using manual approaches aren’t adequate in today’s
challenging business environment. Many of the most
successful companies rely on optimisation software for
the most efficient logistics planning. Logistics
optimization tied into operational databases
significantly improves key performance metrics and
creates lasting corporate value.
Axios have many years experience in using
scheduling software strategically (to make investment
and improvement decisions with confidence) and
operationally (to schedule logistics on a day to day
basis to ensure maximum efficiency).

Case Study – Strategic Example
The Client
A four star and leading edge County Council with a
desire to be “The Greenest County”
The Challenge
The Council had taken the lead in the drive to ensure
that fresh quality foods are provided to schools in an
environmental manner and (where possible) from local
sources. Previously there were a large number of
deliveries to any given location, necessitated by the
separate delivery of frozen food, groceries plus fruit
and vegetables. These separate deliveries are likely
to be very inconvenient for the schools as staff will
need to be available for each delivery. More
importantly, the number of miles driven is excessive
giving rise to a large environmental footprint and
high costs.
The Solution
In addition to considering the practical issues and
truly understanding the hurdles for change, Axios used
a leading vehicle scheduling system to identify the
optimum warehouse location(s), the ideal mix of
vehicles and the best delivery routes.
The Results
A range of options were identified ranging from
training of existing suppliers through to a single set
of deliveries reducing the delivery miles,
environmental footprint and congestion by 60%.

Case Study – Operational Example
The Client
The unrivalled worldwide leader in water treatment,
with over 700 dealers with international
offices in 12 countries.
The Challenge
True delivery costs were unknown and it was felt that
there was a need to get to grips with the cost and
effectiveness of getting water to UK customers.
The Solution
A leading routing and scheduling system was integrated
into the business and used on a daily basis to
schedule all the companies vehicles.
The Results
Outsourcing was eliminated completely. Water and salt
delivery as well as sanitisation service calls were
fully integrated and the fleet balance was improved
significantly. Year on year savings of £300,000 were
achieved.
